‘Connect with Care’ event

Comfort Keepers West Sussex® hosts the ‘Connect with Care’ event and launches ‘Family Connect’ programme

With Worthing experiencing a rapid growth in its older population; and demand for home care beginning to outstrip supply, leaders in the Worthing community came together last Thursday to look at the issues facing its older residents regarding local home care provision.

The event, hosted by Comfort Keepers and aptly named ‘Connect with Care’, brought together a range of local health care professionals – from nurses to formal and informal care workers – local businesses, and residents, to highlight the growing demand for care in Worthing; the need for better quality and best practice in helping meet the needs of the Worthing elderly community.

Councillor Charles James, Mayor of Worthing, opened the event by welcoming Comfort Keepers as a quality home care provider to Worthing. He was followed by speeches from Councillor Paul Yallop, Leader of Worthing Council, Darren Housden, UK Head of Business Development at Comfort Keepers, and a panel discussion on home care, facilitating views from a range of local experts. Emerging themes included: the importance of considering the needs of the individual beyond tasks – a person-centred approach to care over time and task; the value of care workers – no one is ever ‘just the carer’; and the idea of training or information about caring for informal (family) carers.

As part of the focus on solutions to home care provision in Worthing, Comfort Keepers also launched its ‘Family Connect’ programme. The ‘Family Connect’ programme is an integral part of Comfort Keepers’ peace of mind approach to care, focusing on providing regular access for the family to keep track of their loved one’s care – online, with care reports and updates, but also by phone, and in-person visits.

Councillor Paul Yallop, Leader of Worthing Council, said:

“The Council is keen to encourage business growth and new start-ups. Therefore, I was delighted to learn that Comfort Keepers had chosen Worthing to launch their business model into the UK. At the event we learnt of the caring approach which should set Comfort Keepers ahead of other providers. It was evident that the company goes to great lengths to train all its care workers to a very high standard. The good news is that people are living longer. It is important that our older population have a range of support to help them live at home for as long as they wish to. I wish Darren and his team well in building a successful and growing business.”

Jessie Cunnett, Director of Patient & Public Involvement Solutions and a Worthing resident, who led the panel discussions, said:

“I was struck by how important it was for all involved to feel a valued part of the caring process, that all are active participants in the care whether that be staff, family, friends, neighbours and especially the person with caring needs themselves, a really holistic, empowering and shared approach.”

Comfort Keepers plans to continue working with leaders in the care industry to connect people with care, by sharing its innovative approach to home care provision. Comfort Keepers’ home care service guarantees peace of mind, whereby the family always know how their loved one is doing. Comfort Keepers’ Care Workers provide outstanding and consistent care, and Comfort Keepers Interactive Caregiving approach puts the client at the heart of its care services.
